What is Screw Pile Training?

ABC Anchors Screw Pile Training combines theory, practical experience and plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

Training takes place at our facility in Heddington, Wiltshire, where we introduce you to the ABC Anchors screw pile system and the equipment used to install it.

The Heddington training session covers the theory behind screw piling, understanding installation torque and how to calculate torque, as well as the practical side of installing screw piles.

You'll learn not just what to do, but why you're doing it.

Then comes the practical bit.

You'll have the opportunity to use the equipment and install screw piles yourself, helping to turn the theory into something you can actually see and feel.

Our aim is simple: when you leave, we want you to feel confident about getting started with screw piling.

Why is Screw Pile Training important?

At first glance, installing a screw pile might look fairly straightforward.

Attach the appropriate hydraulic driver, position the pile and screw it into the ground.

But there’s more to it than that.

Understanding what's happening as the pile goes into the ground is an important part of successful screw pile installation.

Installation torque and ground conditions can provide valuable information during installation, while understanding how torque relates to the pile and its capacity helps you make informed decisions on site.

That’s why we don't just show you how to operate the equipment.

We explain why it works the way it does.

You'll learn about torque and how to calculate it, giving you a better understanding of what the equipment is telling you during installation.

Is the training practical?

Absolutely.

We think practical experience is one of the most valuable parts of the training.

That’s why our Screw Pile Training doesn't involve sitting in a classroom all day listening to someone talk about screw piles.

The Heddington training session combines the theory and practical sides of screw piling.

Once you've covered the principles, you'll get the opportunity to work with the equipment and actually install screw piles at our facility.

This gives you a chance to get comfortable with the equipment, understand the installation process and see how the theory translates into a real installation.

And yes, there are usually a few questions that only come up once you’re actually operating the equipment!

What happens when I’m ready to install my first project?

This is where Option B Training can be particularly useful.

Option B includes the full Heddington training session, covering the theory of screw piling, understanding and calculating torque, the ABC Anchors system and practical, hands-on training using the installation equipment.

Then, when you're ready to put everything you've learned into practice, an ABC Anchors engineer can visit your site for your first screw piling project.

We'll be there to help, guide and support your team through the installation process, offering practical advice, hints and tips along the way.

In other words, you don't have to go from training to standing on your first job wondering, “Right… what do we do now?”

We're there to help you make that transition.

Option A or Option B Training?

We offer two training options, depending on the level of support you need.

Option A Training

Option A is a training session at our Heddington facility.

The session combines the theory of screw piling with practical, hands-on training using the equipment.

You'll learn about the ABC Anchors screw pile system, the principles behind installation, how to calculate installation torque and how the equipment is used before putting that knowledge into practice.

It's a great option if you're looking for a thorough introduction to screw piling and are confident about taking that knowledge back to your own projects.

Option B Training

Option B includes everything covered in Option A, plus an onsite visit from an ABC Anchors engineer.

Once you've completed the Heddington training session, we'll visit your site when you're installing screw piles for the first time.

This gives your team the opportunity to put their training into practice on a real project, with an ABC Anchors engineer there to help, guide and support you through the installation.

We'll provide practical advice, hints and tips based on what's happening on the job.

It's particularly useful if you're completely new to screw piling and would like a little extra support when you get started.
